Imagine coming home after a hard day’s work knowing that your aches and pains will soon disappear, once you have jumped into your infrared log cabin (also known as an infrared sauna).

Unlike traditional saunas that need to warm up the air to a certain temperature before the body is heated, an infrared cabin only heats approximately 20% of the surrounding air, and the remaining 80% is converted to heat within the body. In addition, an infrared cabin does not use steam or humidity and consequently breathing is easier.

Infrared light is part of the sun’s invisible spectrum. It is a form of energy that is directly transmitted onto objects because of its specific wavelength. It has nothing to do with ultraviolet light, which causes sunburn and damage to the skin.

Infrared log cabins come in variety of sizes and they can be custom-built or chosen from a standard range. There are a variety of extras to choose from: CD player, colour light panel, aromatherapy dispenser, air purifier, ioniser, and a full spectrum light panel. Infrared log cabins do more then relax you – they can improve your health.

For thousands of years ancient cultures have understood that the action of sweating was an effective way to cleanse the body. The Finns are one of the main cultures that continue to maintain a focus on saunas as a primary method of encouraging sweating. Sweating is one of the body’s ways to eliminate toxins, such as metabolic by products from our own cells, and it plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy body. In today’s modern world characterized by our inactive lifestyle, the need for a ‘good sweat’ is very important if we want to look ourselves.

Medical researchers from across the world have found that regular use of an infrared log cabin can have enormous health benefits. In Japan, there is an ‘infrared society’ composed of medical doctors and physical therapists dedicated to further infrared research. Their findings support the health benefits of infrared therapy as a method of healing. In recent times, Japanese research studies have found treatment in an infrared cabin relieved burn pain and promoted the healing rate with less scarring, reduced hypertension (high blood pressure), improved short-term memory loss, relieved arthritis pain, and improved weight loss results. They also found that ear, nose and throat conditions were relieved: tinnitus (ringing in the ears), nosebleeds and chronic middle-ear infections.

Swedish researchers found joint-pain had been resolved when infrared therapy was used, and in Germany, physicians have used whole-body infrared therapy for over 80 years. Chinese research studies have reported over 90% success rate of ailments treated with infrared therapy, such as: chronic soft tissue injury, sciatica, infected eczema, post-surgical infections, and pelvic infection. Ailments associated with poor circulation can respond very well to sessions in an infrared log cabin, due to an increase in peripheral dilation (dilation of the capillaries), such as: leg ulcers, oedema, and fatigue. Skin problems can also be helped: dandruff, ketoids (raised scar tissue), acne, blackheads, and psoriasis.

There are contraindications to using an infrared log cabin, for example: if you’re using certain prescription drugs, because of possible changes in the drug’s effect due to an interaction with the infrared energy. As well as for people who have lupus or multiple sclerosis, recent joint injuries, surgical implements, and silicone implants.

Infrared therapy is reputed to offer an amazing range of possible therapeutic benefits in research conducted around the world. However, the information in this article is provided for reference purposes only. If you have any health problems/health concerns, be sure to consult your physician before you commence time in an infrared log cabin.

Green building technologies are becoming more and more popular as concern for the environment grows. From creating new methods for utilizing solar energy to developing plug-in cars, we are all looking for ways to make a difference. If you are just beginning the construction of your log home, consider employing additional green technologies in the building phases, such as using northern white cedar for the exterior. Northern white cedar is known for having a low impact on the environment and for its durability. For those people already living in log cabins, there are still many little things you can do to save more energy.

If you are looking for additional ways to contribute to the efforts to save our environment from further deterioration, here are some ways you can help prior to and after the construction of your log cabin.

Create an Energy-efficient Design
When you are designing the layout of your home, consider the location and size of your windows. Homes that purposely incorporate sunlight into their designs will have significantly smaller electricity bills over time. Strategically place your windows where there is optimal light when you are in the blueprinting stage of building your house. You won’t have to keep as many lights on during the day because there will be natural sunlight available to you.

Use More Bamboo and Soy
When making decisions about how to decorate the interior of your home, make your choices with the environment in mind. You get countertops, tables, bowls, chairs, and kitchen carts that are made from bamboo. Bamboo is harder than maple, weighs less than oak, and yet is still sustainable and cost-effective. It gives your home a tropical, relaxed feel in addition to its environmental consciousness. Who couldn’t use something that brings out the simplicity in life? You can also help the environment by purchasing all-natural flooring. You can use bamboo in your flooring, too, or you can use salvaged wood. Wood floors are easier to clean and collect less allergens, great for people who struggle with allergies. You can even used soy-based insulation that can be sprayed into your walls as you are constructing your home. Soy-based insulation could reduce your gas bills an additional 30-50%.

Make Recycling a Priority
Many people don’t recycle simply because it’s inconvenient for them. They haven’t established a system for themselves. Many townships have recycling pickup days just like they have trash pickup days. If you live in one such area, take the initiative in utilizing the opportunity to recycle. Build recycling bins into your cabinetry where you will have ample space for them. With a designated location for your recycling, it will be a lot easier to make it a priority. You design a specific space for your garbage can anyway. Do the same for a recycling bin as well.

Use Energy Star Rated Products
From Energy Star insulation panels to appliances, there are numerous Energy Star approved things you can use to use electricity and heat more efficiently in your home. Appliances that have an Energy Star rating generally save 10-50% of the energy that other appliances use. You can still get top performance washers, dryers, refrigerators, etc., but save yourself some money every month by using them. Even battery chargers and computers can have an Energy Star rating.

Get Recycled Furniture
You don’t always have to buy new furniture every time you want to add a piece to your home. Auctions and yard sales are great places to find deals on quality merchandise. Just because someone doesn’t want it anymore doesn’t mean that it’s not worth having. All it may need is some refinishing and you’re set to go. There is also furniture made from recycled materials such as aluminum shavings, newspapers, tires, and barrels. These things can look great in your home and be conversation pieces when you have guests.

Plant a Tree
What log cabin is not surrounded by trees? If yours isn’t, make sure that your log cabin has the right ambiance by planting additional nears in the surrounding area. This is an easy thing you can do on a Saturday afternoon that will benefit the environment for decades to come. You’ll be helping the environment and creating a cozy atmosphere for your home.

Even if you choose just one of these things above, you are making a contribution. Start changing the way you view your energy usage by employing green technologies in your log home today.

Does anyone have a website with infor or own one of these things that they rent out? Thanks!

A log cabin is both attractive and cheaper than any traditional home. Different log cabins are built from logs with varied thickness as thick logs are used in large cabins to add extra strength and insulation. The type of logs used in the log cabin give a different appeal to the log cabin home. There are two types of logs, one is the rough cut round logs and the other one is milled logs which easily fit together due to their uniformity. Now pre-milled logs come in kit form so building a log cabin is both cheap as well as enjoyable task.

Building log cabin

Earlier the log cabins were built like wooden fences by setting different sized logs perpendicularly in a gutter so as to form the wall of the cabin. But now log cabins are formed by placing the logs parallel to each other and connecting their last part with notches. The log cabins can be built by any construction company or manufacturer and sometimes people buy it in kit form for self builds.

The Building permit requirements of log cabins vary from county to county so keep this in mind while building and purchasing any log cabin. If you want it to get built by a builder then get quotes from different cabin builders and get feedback from their previous clients. Also check the credibility of the builder from local builders association. If you want to build a log cabin by taking a construction loan then collect the updated quotes from contractors like masons, plumbers, roofers and electricians. Also add the service charges along with the cost of the items. Sometimes sourcing of water is done by installing a septic tank. The foundations of log cabin require more digging so select the foundation slabs accordingly.

Buying log cabin

But before buying log cabins take an overview of the size and position of plot. Then consider the desired square footage and also access to services like power, water and sewers. While buying any log cabin for sale investigate different log cabin home plans and log cabin kits in the market. Even some builders specialized in cabin building and log cabin kit assembly suggests the suitable type of log cabin for the plot.

Now even one can check out on the internet about different log cabin plans and kits on sites. Even the details of log cabins with pictures are available to the customer on the website. There are different log cabins suitable for different purposes so select the log cabin according to the requirement. If you are buying a log cabin to be used as a home office then ensure enough power and telecom points as well as shelves and cupboards to place the stock and accessories. Even check the locking system of the cabin so as to keep the business safe. Check out your budget and desired features so as to make the log cabin selection easy as the company agents can also then easily locate the desired log cabin for the client.

A typical log cabin is a small house built from logs. Today, log cabins are well designed and constructed. There are log cabins that are large, comfortable, and elegant and many more. Here are facts and information about a log cabin.

Log cabin is a basic type of log house. Most log cabins can be seen both in rural areas and in cities in timber-rich regions around the world. Some United States political figures used log cabins as their symbol, to be known as” Man of the people”. There are seven United States Presidents who were born in log cabins. Amongst them are:

•Abraham Lincoln
•Andrew Jackson
•James Buchanan

Since Lincoln was identified with log cabin, the Republicans of United states were inspired and used to call themselves “Log Cabin Republicans”.

It was in the Bronze Age, somewhere in northern Europe that the first log structures were built. The Finnish and Swedish settlers in 1638 first constructed log structures in the United States. Also, knowledgeable Swiss and Germans from Eastern and Central Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries came and introduced their log construction in America. Even the Scotch-Irish with no tradition of building using logs, in a very short time had adopted the method of construction and contributed to spreading it across the marshland.

These days, log cabins are usually spacious, beautiful and stylish. There are also different types of log cabin for your pleasure and taste. One style is A Cabin that is built on high mountain. This log house could provide an unbelievable vantage point and wonderful scenery of the mountains and forest. Aside from this, it could offer a special place for relaxing, a peaceful, lovely place for the whole family. Because of its location, it is also a perfect retreat to rejuvenate your spirit. Depending on your budget and preference, you can have one or just rent a Mountain Cabin.

One great Mountain Log Cabin wherein you could have a great romantic vacation is the Cherokee Mountain Cabins. The cabins are surrounded by forest trees that could give an enjoyable and relaxing feeling. Cherokee Mountain Cabins feature superb outdoor playground also. There are exciting outdoor activities that are just few paces away from the cabin’s doorstep and these are:

•Whitewater rafting
•Hiking
•Biking
•Boating
•Fishing
•Golfing
•Scenic drive

Moreover, Cherokee Mountain Cabin has a lodge in the forest 30 feet above the White Oak Tree. This Appalachian style wood and stone structure would somehow give tribute to the Cherokee Indians who had lived on Nantahala Mountain and fished in its rivers and creeks.

The Hunting Cabins, on the other hand are for the hunters who are serious about their lodging place. They, in many situations take pride in building their hunting cabins themselves. Conestoga has a wide range of hunting cabins that are unique and with durable camp structures that could withstand even the hurricane Katrina. Each log cabin has firm interlocking corners that make the cabin stronger. Their hunting log cabin kit could be easily assembled because all the components are pre-cut and manufactured at the plant. Thus there will be a less work and a shorter assembly time on the job site. The kit also comes with detailed instruction manual and engineering drawings and only basic carpentry tools are needed for the assembly.

Finally, the log cabin kit from Conestoga is best for those with good general knowledge for construction.

Many of us love the look and feel of wood houses. For others owning a home that is built from wood or logs is dream. While the cost of building your home from full logs may be very expensive, there is an alternative in log siding. This type of siding can be found in many homes and there are very few people who can tell the difference between the siding and full cut logs.

There are a number of companies who specialize in making log siding for residential purposes. These companies use real logs that have been cut to form the log siding that is needed for the purpose of giving homes a cheaper alternative to a full log cabin.

To allow homeowners the ability to have a well constructed log cabin look to their homes the log siding has been cut to certain lengths for ease of assembly. The process that makes the full logs into log siding allows you to select log siding that has been treated with a wood preservative to help the log siding retain its true color. The wood preservative prevents the siding from warping due to water and thermal expansion.

Since the log siding can be attached to your existing frame it is known to be cheaper than building a log cabin from scratch. The log siding in general can be fitted on your home with the use of nails. The patterns that are found in the wood allows the nails to become hidden.

With the log siding you will have a choice of different sidings that looks like the ending of full uncut logs. There are also log sidings that will show the half log look. These different types of log siding can be fixed on your home in a tongue and groove pattern. There are other ways that you can attach the log siding to your home.

Besides buying log siding separately you can also buy log siding that comes in full kit form. These kits will allow you to build your home as a log cabin either from scratch or you can place the log siding around the outside of your home. You can customize these log sidings so that you will have a unique home of your own that completely resembles authentic log cabins.

So the next time that you are thinking of re-siding your home you may want to see how log siding can help you to get the log cabin that you have been yearning for. The best thing about log siding is that you will be able to have a warm home by the time your new “log” covered home is ready for you to move in.

Corn-Cob Blasting-the best option for stripping log home and cabin finishes!

-Generally, corn cob blasting is the best overall method of dealing with many log related problems. Some other method’s for removal of failing finishes, sun-burned wood, mold and mildew issues, etc., are sand blasting or chemical stripping. Sand blasting is a method that is still commonly used, but this method is excessively damaging to the wood, blowing away too much good wood and profiling the logs! Chemical stripping requires the use of caustic chemical’s, and the EPA has made illegal the most effective ones because of how harmful they are to not only the environment, but also the people applying them and the people in the surrounding area. There are many log home and deck restoration companies that still rely heavily on chemical stripping. There are still certain times that we feel some of the milder chemical stripper’s are alright to use. Many of the log homes that we work on are in close proximity to lake and river system’s, making cob blasting the most feasible option of preparing the logs as the chemicals for stripping are obviously very harmful to our lakes and rivers.

-Cob blasting is similar to sand blasting in that you use a blasting pot, in combination with highly compressed air. Cob blasting machines use the compressed air together with the ground up corn cob. The corn cob is light, and work’s very effectively to strip the wood. The air pressure and the amount of media (corn cob) can be adjusted very precisely to only remove as much of the log as is necessary to remove the failing finish, bad wood, etc. Corn cob that is used is bio-degradable, and actually work’s as a good mulch. With chemical stripping, the chemical is applied, then allowed a “dwell” time. The dwell time varies, depending on the finish to be removed, etc. Then a pressure washer is used to remove the chemicals. This is another reason that we prefer cob blasting. It is a dry process. With many of the restoration jobs we work on, there are not only problems with the finish, but the sealants are usually in bad shape too. Many times there are gaps in between the logs, and the caulk or chinking. When you chemical strip, and then pressure wash, many times you would be blasting high pressure water into the home, and in the interior of many log homes today, there is drywall walls, etc. And that can get messy. Cob blasting is a dry process, and worst case scenario, the inside of the house gets a little dust and cob in it. Much easier to clean and less destructive than water. With chemical stripping, most strippers that are effective then need a neutralizer applied after the stripper. Then the neutralizer also needs to be pressure washed off. The fact of the matter is, there are some stains out there, usually the hard shell type stains, (Sikkens, etc.) that even the best legal chemical strippers made cannot effectively remove these finishes!

- Cob blasting is the best way to prepare a log surface for stain, because it opens the surface grain. This makes it more porous, so the log will take and retain up to 50% more stain than a non-cob blasted log. This means 50% more pigment protection and U.V. protection for your logs, and this of course means not only properly prepared wood, but a longer lasting stain job!

- Since cob blasting is a dry process, the log home can then be immediately stained without waiting for the drying process, as you would have to with chemical stripping. Preferably, the logs should be treated with a Liquid borate to make sure nothing grows under the new stain, and allowed to dry out before the re-staining is done, though!

- These are just some of the reasons why we feel cob blasting is the preferred method. We are committed to best processes, and those that are healthy for our environment!

Rustic charm is something that has gotten a lot of press lately. Some people like to feel like they’re getting away from it all and living like an early American family. This type of decoration includes a lot of use of wood and very woodsy colors. There is a lot of use of patterns and decorative accessory pieces that display some sort of woodsy animal.

When trying to create a rustic feel in your home there are a few key elements that you’ll want to include. If there’s no exposed wood in your home, find a way to incorporate it. Exposed wood is very important to the cabin style feel of a home. If you ask most people what they think of when they picture a cabin style home, I would be willing to bet that at least nine out of ten would bring up something about a log cabin.

Cabins are seen to be part of nature, when decorating, you want to bring that nature to your home.

If there is no exposed wood in your home, you’ll have find ways to supplement through decoration. This can most easily be achieved through the use of knickknacks. For the animal lover, there are all kinds of statues carved out of wood or mounted on wood. These would add wood into your home which will help you to create the atmosphere you’re looking for. Another addition that you may want to think about in order to create the woodsy feel would be paneling. Standard paneling can come in a rich brown color that will make you feel like you’re outside among nature rather than the stark white of drywall that reminds you constantly that this is a manmade product.

Another requirement for the cabin style home would be the use of animals in several of your serving pieces, as part of the decorations in the home, and at least one animal as a pet, more if possible. Most napkin and paper towel makers have pictures of nature on their products from time to time. These can be wonderfully decorative as well as useful items for the home.

A trademark piece of a cabin style home would be the use of plaid material in places throughout the house. The plaid is probably something like a red, green, and brown, and could be on the tablecloth, adorning the windows, or napkins and tablecloths on the dinner table. This will be displayed with much care and will sit perfectly where the decorator has decided will look good.

A cabin style look will be very inviting to others and warming when they reach your home. If you cannot often get out to nature, this is a great way to bring nature to you.

Homesteaders settling in the territories of the American West traditionally built log cabins; durable, rainproof, and inexpensive. Today, eco-friendly and rustically charming, log cabins with their distinctive handcrafted appearance seem to be making a comeback, with luxurious features such as whirlpools, skylight windows and heated patios.

Swedish colonists built the first log cabins in North America at the beginning of the 18th century. The design of the log cabins was influenced by typical North European farm-houses until the introduction of the Homestead Act. According to which, new colonists had to build their homes of a specific size with at least one window. These old log cabins had just one room, a spacious porch, and an elevated area for sleeping.

Building the frontier style log cabin was quite easy and required only a few days. First of all, the builder settled a solid foundation to keep logs above the damp soil. Most often, rock or stone were used for the log cabin foundation. Then the builder would square off each log and make round cuts on the top and bottom of each end. Then he assembled the logs so that round cuts would fit together. The logs were secured together with wood sticks. The remaining spaces were filled with insulation materials such as clay or mud. The windows and doors were simply cut out, and a fireplace was built afterwards.

Thanks to new construction technologies and an increased attention to all things eco-wise and natural, log cabins are gaining in their popularity. Well-constructed, weather-proof log cabins today can be built and styled similar to conventional houses. Among the advantages of log cabins and homes, experts list remarkable weather-proofing qualities with little insulation and low building costs. In addition to that log cabins require little maintenance.

A hundred years ago a log builder lived in almost all rural neighborhoods, so learning to build a log cabin was easy – people simply followed the way he built. Today, log cabin enthusiasts have access to hundreds of log cabin building manuals and resources from all over the world.

Log cabin factory kits are a practical solution for the log cabin devotee. Log packages with complete instructions can be found online from as low as $5,000, but the complete cost of the building can go twice as high. To the price of the log cabin kit you should add the costs of the assembly and the installation of plumbing, electricity, heating and other “luxuries”. The happy owner of the log cabin can actually decrease the costs by participating in the construction, even though most log building companies can provide a team of contractors to raise the log cabin. In any case, the modern log cabin can be built from scratch in less than two weeks.

Once a popular vacation dwelling located in the scenic outback, log cabins are becoming popular residence choices for many families. More than 90 per cent of all log homes are currently used as a primary residence, and many of these log homes are built in metropolitan areas. Often, when people build the log cabin for vacation getaways places, they eventually move into their log homes because of their casual rugged charm and convenience.
